Bathurst Street will be under construction from May 17 to December 2020

Bridge rehabilitation, water main replacement and TTC track replacement

Bridge Rehabilitation

Fort York Boulevard to Front Street West – May to December 2020

Bathurst Street will be closed to all vehicular and cycling traffic. Cyclists can dismount and use the available sidewalk. Pedestrians will have access to one sidewalk. The nearby Garrison Crossing Bridges and the yellow Puente de Luz will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians to cross the rail corridor.


  • Work will take place 7 days a week, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

  • Work crews will start preparation work the week of May 11. The full-bridge road closure is expected to begin May 17.

  • Steel and concrete repairs underneath and on top of the bridge (including sidewalks)

  • Replacement of TTC tracks and overhead wiring.

  • Repave bridge surface.

  • Widen sidewalk at the southeast corner of the bridge for new construction of concrete parapet wall on curbs to ensure the bridge meets current safety standards.

Water main Replacement – 2 phases 1. Front Street West to north of King Street West – June to August 2020

2. North of King Street West to Queen Street West – August to November 2020

Crews will replace the 145-year-old water main and existing substandard water service connections. Areas affected by construction will be restored.


  • Crews will work Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Sidewalks on both sides of Bathurst will remain open. Infrequent closures may occur.

  • The bike lane on Bathurst Street, between Richmond Street West and Adelaide Street West will be closed.

  • One shared (single file) travel lane in each direction for people driving and cycling.

  • Parking will not be allowed in work zone.

Water main Replacement – intersections

The intersections between Front Street West and Queen Street West


  • Crews will work weekends only Saturday to Sunday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • There will be some weekend lane restrictions at intersecting (cross) streets: Wellington, King, Adelaide, Richmond and Queen, to limit the impact of construction.

  • Dates to be confirmed and notice to be delivered in advance of work.


TTC Track Replacement Wolseley Street to Dundas Street West – September to October 2020 (4 Weeks) Crews will replace the TTC tracks within the centre section of Bathurst Street.

  • Crews will primarily work Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • TTC track work will take place 24/7.

  • Overnight rail work by TTC may consist of moving new rail into position, rail installation and rail welding / grinding.

  • Traffic information for this project will be provided in a construction update.

  • Sidewalks on both sides of Bathurst will remain open.

  • Infrequent closures may occur.

  • Parking will not be allowed in work zone

TTC 511 streetcar

Effective March 29, 2020, buses will replace the 511 Bathurst streetcar.

The early bus replacement will allow for preparatory work in advance of the closure of the Bathurst Street bridge in May 2020. As Fleet Street west of Bathurst Street is closed, buses will divert in both directions via Fort York Boulevard between Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard. Buses will serve existing bus stops on Fort York Boulevard.
